SARAH PLUM
VIOLIN AND VIOLA TEACHING
Welcome to plumteaching.com, a site devoted to my teaching, pedagogy, and work with students. Here you’ll find information about my private studio, specialty classes, upcoming publications, and current projects. Be sure to check back regularly for announcements about live masterclasses, online offerings, and immersive practice retreats.

Are you seeking new challenges, stronger technique, or focused preparation for auditions and competitions? I work with each student through a highly individualized approach—listening closely, setting clear goals, and designing a path that leads to meaningful, immediate progress. My teaching emphasizes both technical fluency and artistic confidence, helping students develop skills they can rely on in performance.

I have taught students of all ages and levels for more than 35 years. My students have gone on to success as young musicians and professionals, earning prizes in competitions; gaining admission to youth orchestras, summer programs, and conservatories; and securing scholarships, graduate assistantships, and professional positions in orchestras, chamber ensembles, universities, and public schools.

If you are interested in a trial lesson, participating in one of my classes, or studying with me in Evanston or at my home studio in Okemos, Michigan, I invite you to contact me directly.
Coming in the summer of 2026 Sarah Plum will be publishing a scale book. This book will introduce a new way to learn and perfect scales and also provide an introduction to Plum's method of teaching left hand technique, intonation and shifting. Watch this space for further information as well as introductory videos and opportunities for online classes.
